TOPPLING GIANTS

Oh how we love our heroes. We love to build them up and then we love to tear them down.  We seem to have no problem with the outrageous sexual exploits of Brad Pitt, Angelina, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Madonna, and Cher who has had more lovers of all flavors than she's had hit songs.  Any celebrity will do.  Remember how the "news" that a basketball star claimed to have bedded over 2000 women titilated the media for weeks on end.  And of course the famous basketball star charged with rape and sodomy kept Chris Matthews' leg tingling for months.  The list goes on and on and we never seem to tire of it. We pay to see the concerts and movies and pay more to buy the songs and videos. You see, these celebrities are heroes to TOO many people. How many people just smiled and said "Oh well, that's his private business" when Bill Clinton literally got caught with his pants down in the Oval Office, then lied both to the American people and Congress. We did nothing . . . sure, he was officially impeached but did we demand his resignation? Nope. Remember the Kennedy's JFK and RFK and Teddy and all their scandals with Marilyn and Mary Jo.  Why was their shameless behavior deemed ok?  Why did the media "cover" for them for so long? There are too many other DC scandals to even begin to list here and none of these people, none, are real heroes -- just celebrities. Why then do we allow a real hero like General Petreaus to be treated the way the media and our current president have been treating him?  How many in the Obama administration can honestly swear that their "private life" could pass scrutiny?  Few if any, I'd bet! If we set such high standards for our Military heroes then why don't we hold our politicians and celebrities and most certainly our presidents to the same standard? If we use the Uniform Code of Military Justice against a Hero-General, then shouldn't the Commander-in-Chief also be held to the same standards?  Here is the latest hero we have chosen to topple. I believe this was done because he has Republican leanings, even though he says he has no interest in entering into politics, and by the way, who decided to investigate him in the first place?  Who signed the order for the FBI to go through all his e-mails?  Stinky politics!

A REAL AMERICAN HERO

David Howell Petraeus
born November 7, 1952, Petraeus is a highly decorated four-star general, serving over 37 years in the United States Army. His last assignments in the Army were as commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A) from July 4, 2010, to July 18, 2011. His other four-star assignments include serving as the 10th Commander, U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) from October 13, 2008, to June 30, 2010, and as Commanding General, Multi-National Force - Iraq (MNF-I) from February 10, 2007, to September 16, 2008. As commander of MNF-I, Petraeus oversaw all coalition forces in Iraq.
Petraeus has a B.S. degree from the United States Military Academy, from which he graduated in 1974 as a distinguished cadet (top 5% of his class). He was the General George C. Marshall Award winner as the top graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College class of 1983. He subsequently earned an M.P.A. in 1985 and a PhD degree in International Relations in 1987 from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He later served as Assistant Professor of International Relations at the United States Military Academy and also completed a fellowship at Georgetown University.

Petraeus has repeatedly stated that he has no plans to run for elected political office. On June 23, 2010, President Barack Obama nominated Petraeus to succeed General Stanley McChrystal (who was also reprimanded for speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, remember?) as commanding general of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, technically a step down from his position as Commander of United States Central Command, which oversees the military efforts in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, and Egypt.

On June 30, 2011, Petraeus was unanimously confirmed as the next Director of the CIA by the U.S. Senate 94-0. Petraeus relinquished command of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan on July 18, 2011, and retired from the U.S. Army on August 31, 2011. On November 9, 2012, General Petraeus resigned from his position as Director of the CIA, citing an extramarital affair that was reportedly discovered in the course of an FBI investigation.
